Building projects begin to take shape (19 October 2009)
184 Territory schools are benefiting from Territory Government’s action to take advantage of the Australian Government's Economic Stimulus Plan. The Territory has secured a total of $276 million funding to assist in improving education facilities Territory wide.
The School Pride Program provides funding of up to $200,000 for repairs and minor works and funding has been distributed to 105 Territory Government schools.
The Primary Schools for the 21st Century program provides funding of up to $3 million per school to build or upgrade libraries, classrooms, multi-purpose schools and other facilities. Under this program 134 Territory schools received a total of over $173 million dollars.
Eight projects are in the design stage in Government secondary schools across the Territory under the Science and Language Centres program.
Of the overall $267million, more than $87 million has been allocated for upgrading and improving remote schools.
